Active Release Technique is a soft tissue protocol system designed to address the muscular, tendinous and ligamentous components of an injury. The basic principle of ART is that fibrosis scar tissue develops in areas of injury. This scar tissue can put pressure on nervous or venous tissue causing numbness, tingling or weakness, or it can form adhesions in and throughout the muscles and other connective tissues causing pain and or restrictions in range of motion.
The common misconception is that, muscular issues will heal just fine without any attention at all. While this is partially true, adhesions also form in and throughout the soft tissues beyond the normal healing processes. These can cause restrictions or altered movement patterns in a muscles normal range of motion, which down the road can lead to a more exacerbated condition if left untreated.
Common conditions that have seen success through ART:
- Low back pain & neck pain
- Sciatica
- Tension headaches
- Disc bulges and herniations
- Rotator cuff and Labral injuries
- Tennis elbow
- Carpal tunnel injuries
- Knee and ankle sprains
- IT band syndrome
- Plantar fasciitis
